Guest guest
To Mrs Stella HUNG, of Agriculture & Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD), 7/F Cheung Sha Wan Government Offices, 303 Cheung Sha Wan Road, Kowloon, Hong Kong Dr. York CHOW, Secretary for Health, Welfare and Food, 19th floor, Murray Building, Garden Road, Hong Kong Hong Kong Government Secretariat (Policy Bureaux) Chief Secretary for Administration's Office Hong Kong Hong Kong Tourism Commission Dear Mr Chow, dear Mrs. Hung, I was shocked when I received the news that the government of Hong Kong has embarked on the mass killing of 40,000 healthy pigs due to pollution problems in your city, which made it necessary - in your eyes - to close all existing pig farms. The farmers were there fore forced to surrender their animals and assured that all pigs will be killed humanly by euthanasia. This was/is NOT the case, and the Hong Kong government has broken its promise in the most cruel manner imaginable. I have seen the pictures, read the news reports - this is nothing short of atrocious ! I therefore must ask you most urgently to stop this massacre of innocent animals immediately! Hong Kong has nothing to gain from such blatant displays of animal cruelty - but everything to lose. Besides, has keeping promises gone out of fashion recently ? For Germany and myself, I do not wish for partners in business and culture who so obviously have no sense of decency, moral and respect towards animals. It is disgusting, and throws an extremely bad light on Chinese efforts to become a respected member of the world community. Hong Kong, for long having been British governed, has had every opportunity to lead the way for all of China towards a more compassionate and enlightened attitude towards the animals who share all our lives in a myriad of ways. It grieves me beyond expression to see this potential trampled underfoot with such brutal deliberateness. Sincerely, Diana Hartig 71720 Oberstenfeld Germany With the German Animal Welfare Party
