Guest guest
Owner of pups will not escape the law-Malay Mail - May 8th 2007 NO way out. The Veterinary Services Department is looking into prosecuting the owner(s) after the case was referred to them by the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals last week. At a meeting yesterday, SPCA deputy general manager Alan Hor and department enforcement head Zainuddin Isma Yatim discussed how best to proceed with the prosecution. At this point, the department will focus on gathering more information. " The department will also record statements from Fire and Rescue Department officers, who had gone to the scene after receiving a distress call on May 4. " The SPCA vet and I will give our statements, " Hor said. He would also provide photos he had shot at the scene that day. The department had also asked SPCA to hand over the surviving dog, Cody, temporarily to them for further investigations. It is not known how long the investigation will take. Zainuddin had also asked for the carcass of the puppy for a post-mortem. However, the dead puppy was buried shortly after rescue efforts. The department, Hor said, had wanted to perform a post-mortem to determine whether the puppy had died of heat stroke or strangulation. It was reported yesterday that Hor had lodged a police report after being advised by department. According to his report, Hor had gone to the scene after he received a call from a resident. The firemen had arrived to release the puppies. He had also left a notice at the gate, stating the offence committed by the owner, but there was no response.
