Guest guest
A young female leopard was rescued by the forest department in an operation headed by the Assam State Zoo DFO, Mr. Narayan Mahanta at 13:15hrs (IST), from the Nilachal hills of Guwahati. The animal was sighted in the morning inside a store room of a temple adjacent to a waterfall, after which the doors and windows of the room were closed and the locals called the police and the forest people. The leopard seemed to bear injuries near the right ear and head, although the cause and extent of injury was not known immediately, as the medical examination shall be carried out at the Zoo hospital. Nilachal Hills which were once known as a leopard habitat are soon loosing its pride due to massive encroachment and loss of forest cover. Thanks to the prompt response of the police and forest department that they managed to successfully tranquilize and rescue the animal. The Police did a great job in controlling the curious crowd which had gathered in hundreds from all over today being a sunday.
