Guest guest
Dear Members, I am sending this email on behalf of the Born Free Foundation in the UK. The Born Free Foundation in partnership with the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society are launching a campaign on captive dolphin 'swim-with' facilities later this year. Both organisations are concerned about the growing number of opportunities for tourists to swim with dolphins and the focus of the campaign will be to educate holiday makers about the reality behind the experience. Born Free are currently building up a database of all facilities worldwide that hold captive cetaceans (not just those used in swim-withs, although that is a priority), and the numbers of each species that they hold. There are a huge number of facilities in Asia, particularly in Japan, but so far Born Free have been unable to obtain precise figures on the species held, or how many individuals of each species are held, at the following facilities: * Marine World, Dubai * Al-Harathy travelling show, Saudi Arabia * Seoul Grand Park Zoo, South Korea * Yelie Ocean World, Yeliu, Taiwan * Safari World, Bangkok, Thailand * Sanctuary of Truth, Pattaya, Thailand * Gelanggang Samudra Oceanarium, Jakarta, Indonesia * Dolphinslodge, Nagoya-Batam, Indonesia * Aquatorium at SM Mall of Asia, Bay City, Philippines * Ocean World, Qinhuangdao City, China * Royal Jidi Ocean World, Fushun, China * Ocean Aquarium World, Penglai, China * Baiji Dolphing Aquarium, Baiji, China * Awashima Marine Park, Shizuoka, Japan * Izu-Mito Sea Paradise, Shizuoka, Japan * Kamogawa Sea World, Kamogawa, Japan * Minamichita Beach Land Aquarium, Aichi, Japan * Misaki Amusement Park Aquarium, Osaka, Japan * Osaka Kaiyukan Aquarium, Osaka, Japan * Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium, Okinawa, Japan * Hakkeijima Sea Paradise - Dolphin Fantasy, Kanagawa, Japan * Keikyu Aburatsubo Marine Park, Kanagawa, Japan * Shimoda Kaichu Aquarium, Shimoda City, Japan * Shimonoseki Kaikyokan Aquarium, Shimonoseki, Japan * Shinagawa Aquarium, Shinagawa, Japan * Taiji Whale Museum, Taiji, Japan * World Dolphin Resort, Taiji, Japan * Marinepia Matsushima Aquarium, Matsushima, Japan * Echizen Matsushima Aquarium, Matsushima, Japan * Notojima Beach Park Aquarium, Notojima Island, Japan * Marine World Uminonakamichi, Fukuoka City, Japan * Amakusa Aquarium Dolphin World, Hondo, Japan * Miyajima Public Aquarium, Miyajima, Japan * Toba Aquarium, Toba, Japan * Asamushi Aquarium, Aomori, Japan * Enoshima Aquarium, Fujisawa, Japan * Futami Sea Paradise, Futami, Japan * Inubosaki Marine Park, Choshi City, Japan * Katsurahama Aquarium, Kochi, Japan * Kinosaki Marine World, Toyooka-Shi, Japan * Niigata City Aquarium, Niigata, Japan * Oarai Aquarium, Oarai, Japan * Otaru Aquarium, Otaru, Japan * Suma Aqualife Park, Kobe, Japan * Sunshine International Aquarium, Higashi Ikebukuro, Japan * Yashima Sea Palace, Yashima, Japan If you could shed any light on this, Born Free would be extremely grateful to hear of any information you may have about cetaceans currently held at the above facilities. Guest guest
Dear Dave, There are 50 dolphin facilities here in Japan. Most of them have obtained their dolphins from the drive fisheries in Taiji or Futo. I will try to get the list before leaving Japan next month. Cheers, Ric www.SaveJapanDolphins.org > > " Dave Neale " <dneale > 2007/02/05 Mon PM 03:43:09 EST > " AAPN " <aapn > > CC: " 'Anne Keeley' " <annek > Captive Dolphin Facilities in Asia - Info Needed > > Dear Members, > > I am sending this email on behalf of the Born Free Foundation in the UK. > > > The Born Free Foundation in partnership with the Whale and Dolphin > Conservation Society are launching a campaign on captive dolphin > 'swim-with' facilities later this year.
