Guest guest
Because there is a German market!!! I don't know if any of you ever heard of this, Germany is the biggest market along with Russia. We( animal rights activists )have been talking of EU ban of this trade, but I am not sure at all if that really would solve the problem. There are many stores which sell dog and cat fur under the names Genotte, Lipi, Gaewolf, you can buy them online, at the stores, supermarkets, fleamarkets, I even have seen one jacket with dog fur trim, in which a flea was still " living " , I have seen tons of decorations, figurines made of cat fur, sometimes of rabbit and dog fur. The British company Hasbro is selling " Furreal " stuffed animals and toys for children made of such. Also Rheuma blankets made of cat fur is totally popular here among elderly people, cat fur is believed to heal the pain, although there is no such proof. http://www.tigerfreund.de/english/01/catmurder.htm The site above is a site of a friend of mine, who also has worked with Manfred Karremann, a German TV journalist who mostly focuses on animal welfare issues, who investigated (undercover) fur factories filled with caged dogs and cats in China, Thailand and in the Philippines, together with HSUS in early 1998, has videotaped the whole procedure, 5-6 hours in all, he then showed his videofootage for 60 minutes on German TV, where you could see how they got killed( a part of it here http://www.youtube.com/watch? v=ecPhF57BQH8 & mode=related & search ), those days I could not view such things, so my husband did and told me that the animals were stabbed, strangled then skinned alive, mostly tabby cats. It was the very beginning of my nightmare, I didn't even know such evilness exists. I could not understand how Mr. Karremann just could stand and film and talk to these evil people, although he really is a great animal advocate, he has saved many animals during his work abroad. The pictures on the site above were taken by him, for some reason you cannot view them anymore, maybe better that way, really hard pictures. Now I just wanted to make you aware of the carneval in Freiburg, Germany, which is coming very soon. That is a tradition there to wear clothes and huts made of cat fur, we have been protesting, showed them the footage from China, but these people don't care, so they go on with this barbaric act of wearing costumes made of cat fur " made in " China( in Germany it is not allowed to produce such but is allowed to sell them, as long as they were manufactured somewhere else ). So, we keep protesting, there is a club in Freiburg whose members used to wear cat fur costumes but gave it up due to thousands of protest letters.
