Their suffering may continue for 20 years. Bear bile used in traditional Chinese medicine can easily be replaced by herbal or synthetic alternatives, which are cheaper and equally effective. Due to excessive bear bile production bear farmers are constantly trying to find new products to add bear bile to, such as shampoos, beers and various tonics. In South Korea it has been illegal to extract bile from living bears since 1992. However, there are still bear farms. Bears over the age of 10 can be legally slaughtered (usually in front of the customers) for their bile. Please sign the petition and ask your friends and family members to sign it too. This petition is submitted by the Finnish Support Group for Bear Rescue in Asia. The group supports Animals Asia Foundation that rescues bears from bear bile farms.
