Guest guest
For those of you that have done the Sympto-Thermal method, when is the first day I should start taking my temperature? 1st day of period? When?? And do you seriously take it before you get out of the bed? Could I not walk to the bathroom and take it?
Guest guest
Hi, I don't think it matters when you start taking your temp (first day of period, etc.), as long as you chart it and follow the charts for a few months to see if you have a predictable pattern of ovulation. And depending on how predictable your patterns are, and how much you want to avoid pregnancy, you might want to have another form of bc on hand, just in case. Ironically, the time of the month that you might be most interested in sex is when you're ovulating - so another form of bc for those days might be helpful. (sorry if tmi) About when to take the temp after you wake up -- before we had a child, and when I was first learning how to do this, I took my temp first thing, before getting out of bed, at exactly the same time each day. I'm way more relaxed about it now - I usually stick the thermometer in my mouth on my way to the bathroom when I first get up - and the time can vary an hour one way or the other, depending on what's going on that day. I don't notice huge differences in my temps that way. But, my temps are pretty predictable, too, and I hear it's not always that way. I'd do what works for you, and what you'll stick with. Chart for a few months to see if you have a predictable pattern, and rely on something else if you're ovulating or your temps seem wonky (which could be stress, illness, ovulation, or something else - but better safe than picking out another baby name when it's not in your plans that year). :-) And by the way, it is possible to ovulate twice in a month - I did the month we got pregnant with our son, and I'm finding that it happens every so often. Guest guest
I would start around day 5. Yes, it does matter if you get out of bed. If you don't have a copy already, you should get Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler. It is the best resource out there that I have found.
