Guest guest
Dear Champa: Thank you for your detailed case history. This is a textbook description of a hoarder-- >She is considered a lunatic by the neighbours. Perhaps ridiculed >over the years has become very sensitive and behaves like a lunatic. >She eats with the dogs, sleeps with them, regardless of their skin >condition. Pure love and compassion? Madness? Different people will >interpret it differently. I found the conditions for both the human >being and her dogs absolutely appalling. The actual hell must be >cleaner. And I also found out that I could not reason out with her >beyond a point, however much I wanted to help her and her dogs. My next two e-mails will include a great deal of information about the hoarding phenomenon, based on evaluating data from more than 1,000 cases. The most useful data is in the second half of each article. I will send cc. to everyone who received your e-mail, though many will already be familiar with the information. What to do about hoarders is quite a problem. Many people think of them as saints, so prosecuting them for neglect of animals and creating a public nuisance is often difficult. On the other hand, there is a common belief that saints are martyred for being good. Having studied the lives of many saints, many years ago, I came to the conclusion that most were martyred chiefly because they were creating a public nuisance, and the idea that they were good tended to develop mainly after no one had to put up with them any longer. Hoping the info helps, -- Merritt Clifton Editor, ANIMAL PEOPLE P.O.
