Guest guest
Hi All, I am getting this leaflet printed to be distributed during the Mahavir Jayanti, a Jain festival. As you know the Jain are in the forefront of many battles for animals. But they continue to let abuse of animals happen in their processions. I need this message to be endorsed by as many animal rights orgnizations as possible to make an impact. Please email me the name of your organization with your logo, if you agree to the content and they cause. If you think the time is too short to decide or you don't agree to the contents or you don't have the authorization to approve it, please igore the email. Here is the content. that will be translated in Hindi. I am there too, will someone please listen to me... [Picutre of a typical urban elephant with injury marks all over his body.] - I belong to the lush green jungles of Assam, not your hot and noisy city. - When I was a kid, my mother was shot dead before me, so that they could take me away for training. - I was kept hungry and thirsty in the state of shock for days till I finally gave up and became a slave to the human being. - I am all alone, I am meant to be in a herd, I cry everyday to reunite with a family. - Someday, please take a moment to look under my feet, you will see what you do when you made to me. My feet are made to make me walk over green grass, its terrible pain for me to walk over the hot tarred road and stones that pierce into my tender skin, but no one cares. - My skin is peeling off like shell of a dry onion, nobody notices. - I need 300 liters of water for drinking and more for bathing; I need 300 kgs of food daily, are you sure I am not starving, did anyone bother to find out? - To make me move or to stop, a sharp ankush pierces through my skin. But my screams are muffled in your jajaykar - Your procession has cold drinks and water booths for thousands of people, has anyone cared for me? At 40 centigrade ever given a though of what I go through without water - My other friends, the bullocks, the horses, the camel do no better, ever bothered to see their wounds? One day, try pulling a cart yourself, in this hot sun to know. - Each time you hire me, you are funding all the above cruelties. My mahout gets ten of thousands of rupees each time you hire me, and so more mother elephants will be killed and more babies like me imprisoned. - How long will you make me cry? How long will you fool yourself and justify my exploitation on the name of tradition? How long will you keep abusing me on the name of the tirthankars who themselves preached Ahimsa Aparigrah and Anekandwad. What can you do? - Contact the trustees of all religious groups and temple trusts that hire elephants and other animals. - At least get policies set for animal welfare in your processions. A religion that claims 'Ahimsa parmo dharam' can do at least this much. - Insist that they give up the use of animals in the procession - Please call Manoj Oswal on 9890044455 and I will gladly meet the decision makers. - Stop your children from riding animals or calling them for your paries.
