DHAKA: A 100-year-old elephant was killed by another elephant in a

'rare' incident suspected over clash for food in southeastern

Bangladesh's Zaliyapalong forest, officials said on Friday.

An autopsy suggested that the injuries that killed the elephant were

caused by another elephant in a fight in the wild near tourist town of

Cox's Bazar, local officials said.

" We think the two elephants clashed for food, because the forest where

the body was found had no soft plants or trees that elephants like, "

Aboni Bhushon Tagore, Cox's Bazar district forest officer was quoted

as saying by the media.

Forest officials, however, are looking for the winner, who might need

medical treatment. The officials said fights between elephants are

'rare' and are usually triggered over food.

Tagore said the two tusks, each weighing 15 kg, were chopped off from

the dead elephant for preservation and the body has been buried.
