The meet was chaired by MJ Boruah SDO©. Public resentment for not taking effective steps in respect of havoc created by wild tuskers was the main objective of the meet. After thorough discussion, a series of proper initiatives to check havoc by wild elephants were taken up and a few proposals were agreed to be implemented immediately. A Ahmed, DFO, Nagaon disclosed in the meeting that though the forest department has taken some steps but has not been able to drive out the wild tuskers till now. Hence new efforts are inevitable. Therefore altogether six `kinki' elephant will have to be engaged within a week to drive out the herd of elephants from the human habitat. In this drive the forest guards will also be engaged. Biraj Hazarika of Sonarigaon suggested supplying of cartridges to gaon licence holders for blank fire to drive out the wild elephants. The DFO has assured to take necessary action in this regard. The meeting decided to accept these proposals and the representatives welcomed these and decided to extend help and co-operation. The AGP (P) representative attending the meet decided to withdraw and suspend their road blockade programme for the time being. Altogether 20 representatives belong to Forest deptt, public, AGP (P) including civil and were present in the meet.
