Guest guest Posted December 21, 2006 Report Share Posted December 21, 2006 www.sentinelassam.com 5th Kaziranga Elephant Festival from January 4 From our Correspondent JORHAT, Dec 5: The stage is set for the fifth edition of the Kaziranga Elephant Festival which promises to be a grander event than what it had been before. A high-level meeting was held at the Kohora range of the Kaziranga National Park today to discuss the preparations for the jumbo festival. Forest and Tourism Minister Rockybul Hussain chaired the meeting which was attended by the top brass of the State Tourism, Forest and Finance departments and the district administrations of Golaghat and Nagaon districts. Briefing The Sentinel later, Press Adviser to the Chief Minister Debo Kumar Bora, who was also present at the meeting, said that the festival would be held at the centenary park over four days from January 4. On the inaugural day, the exhibition stalls of the self-help groups in the form of a mela will be inaugurated at the festival venue. Bora pointed out that the festival proper would commence with a jumbo procession on January 5. Folk dancers and members of other ethnic groups will follow the bedecked elephants in traditional outfit and gear. This eye-catching spectacle will be flagged off by the State Forest Minister. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is slated to open the meeting later in the day. A seminar on eco-tourism and biodiversity will be held on January 6.
