Guest guest
'Bear killing bad, but what about Kashmiris?' JKLF asks Maneka GK NEWS SERVICE Srinagar, Dec 21: The Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) has reacted strongly to animal rights activist Maneka Gandhi's statement on the killing of a bear in Tral last week that Kashmiris were " inhuman. " A JKLF spokesman in a statement here Thursday said, " Entire world knows how kind-hearted Kashmiris are and they don't need a certificate from anybody. " The spokesman said Maneka had met the JKLF chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik in 2000 when he was undergoing treatment in a Delhi hospital. " That time Malik told her bluntly that she expresses anguish and concern whenever an animal is killed. But when it comes to human rights violations in Kashmir, where women and children are being killed, she prefers to remain quiet. " While responding to the query, Maneka, according to the JKLF spokesman, said, " Kashmiris deserve to be killed as they themselves are responsible for what they are facing. " " Our open question to Maneka is how can a woman, who justifies the killings of children and women be concerned about the rights of animals? " the spokesman added. Lashing out at TV channels for blowing the bear-killing out of proportion, the JKLF spokesman said, " It is amazing that these channels remain aloof when any innocent Kashmiri is killed by Indian soldiers. Guest guest
*I am as concerned about human rights violations in Kashmir as any Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front commander; in fact I am in regular touch with an author who has written a book that challenges the status quo of Kashmir(The book was banned in India and was published initially from London; it is now available here though) . However, my concern for human rights does not incite me to stone, hammer, kick and set alight any animal. As the saying goes, " Two wrongs do not make a right. " I am somewhat at a loss to understand the JKLF argument that implies that setting alight and torturing a non human creature somehow promotes human rights.* On 12/22/06, Cate <cateanna wrote: > > 'Bear killing bad, but what about Kashmiris?'
