Burial case: Delhi CM promises action

NDTV Correspondent

Thursday, April 12, 2007 (New Delhi)

NDTV had, on April 10, reported on how the family of a one-and-a-half-

year-old child was shattered after crematoriums in Delhi refused to

perform the last rites for the child.

Hinduism apparently doesn't allow the cremation of children who are

younger than three-years-old.

Moreover, adding to the grief of the Sharma family, Delhi's Bacha

Ghat, which is the only final resting place for children, is a filthy

cesspool with scavenging dogs and despicable conditions.

However, sources have told NDTV that Women and Child Welfare Minister

Renuka Choudhary has spoken to Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit

regarding the issue, and the Delhi CM has promised to take action.
