I run Animal Rescue Kerala (ARK), which is near Kovalam in Kerala. We have had the same situation in Trivandrum occuring over the last 5 months and I have found that here, in Kerala, there are few people who care for animals , and only a few lone voices have stood up and spoken out about the daily killings by the employees of the Trivandrum Corporation. The Mayor of Trivandrum approached ARK last July and asked if we would teach a team of 25 dog-catchers how to catch and handle dogs so that they could implement an ABC program , they spent three days last September being taught the program , along with how to identify dogs that we have already sterilised. Dog-catching poles were provided by Dr. Chinny Krishna of the Blue Cross , and we were all very excited about the new program. However they then used all the information we had given them to go out and kill all the dogs in Trivandrum and surrounding areas, including our sterliised dogs. The dog-catchers are paid per dog caught and killied , and now that they are finding it harder to find dogs they are now moving into surounding panchayats in the areas where ARK has spent the last 4 years sterilising dogs. We have taken Trivandrum Corporation to court to try and stop the killing , however the case has been ajourned 7 times and on the 8th time it came up they did not make a judgment till 2 days later,THE COURT HAS RULED THAT TRIVANDRUM CORPORATION IS TO GO ON KILLING!!! I am a foreign woman who is not taken at all seriously here , please can you all give the dogs of Trivandrum the same support as you have given the dogs of Banaglore. I am devasdated by the result, the Mayor and Chief Vet Dr Revi Kumar have decieved us to teach the the abc programe, killed hundreds of our sterilised dogs. As as to yet I am not sure if they have killed in the areas where we have a memorandum of understanding, but now the court has gone against us how long will it be before they come into these two panchayts? I believe at least 2500 dogs have been killed in a cruel barbaric way, perhaps more. I have worked here for the animals for 5 years, have sold my home in England and bought land here and had a rescue centre built www.animalrescuekerala.org and tried and tried ,to be treated like this ,and the barbaric cruelty inflicted on the dogs is beyond belief.I can prove all I am saying with CDs Videos etc.please help.
