As part of this, collectors will soon issue notices to owners to present their elephants before the district magistrate and get it registered. The decision was taken at a high-level meeting convened by Forest Minister Binoy Viswam, Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan and Revenue Minister K P Rajendran here on Wednesday. The meeting also decided to complete the procedure to implant microchip in elephants as early as possible. The meeting also formed a committee comprising the Tourism Secretary, Chief Wildlife Warden and Eco-tourism Director to conduct a feasibility study of a rehabilitation centre for old elephants.
