Guest guest
Herbivores or Vegetarians are simply who eat just the vegetables or plant products in general. It's very amusing to read about people who include tuna or fish or sea food or egg as vegetarian!! Why not use special terminology to denote selective carnivores like eggitarian ? seafood+vegetarian, fish+vegetarian etc Karen
Guest guest
Vegetarian Times defines all those actually Karen!! haha.. I forget all the terminology, but just like there is vegan and vegetarian ( as we all come to know as octo-lovo), there is also octo only, lavo only, plus words for people who eat fish ( pescetarian) and people who eat chicken as well... It's kind of silly as just because you may be " pescetarian " technically if you include fish- that doens't mean you only eat fish. You eat beans and veggies and grains.. Just like a vegetarian doens't only eat vegetables. It's actually silly to assume that Vegetarians are octo-lavo as well, as a true vegetarian would be totally herbivore or vegan, one would think.. Making the word vegan obsolete. Vegetarian to the carnivore world should mean no animal products at all. Even if I personally eat fish or egg or dairy- I would not tell someone I am vegetarian and then ask them for fish. If i did- I would tell them I am not a true vegetarian, but I do choose to eat vegetarian most of the time. It's important that we do not mis-educate people into thinking vegetarians eat fish. That way one of us can go to Italy and order a vegetarian meal and not get Salmon! When I was in mexico, I made it very clear that I was vegetarian, and wanted no meat at all in my quesadillas... No meat no meat was repeatedly often and the waiter very clearly understood us. I ate one and it had chicken in it. He replied " Si- no meat- only chicken. " You can't win..! But it's important for at least within our vegetarian community to be at one with the definitions. we fish eaters cannot go telling people we are vegetarian and then let them see us eating fish. This leads to the belief that vegetarians eat fish. That's our responsibility. Whether or not I choose to eat shrimp just cuz I think it is gross, is a different ball of wax... haha. But when I ask for a vegetarian meal- I am not expecting to get fish, seafood or anything animal related, and I think all of us need to strive to get that message across- especially those of us who cross the boundaries... Guest guest
Karen, Vegetarians may eat eggs as well as dairy products, as those foods are not animal flesh. Perhaps you are getting vegetarian confused with vegan? Jude
