I'm glad this discussion group was featured in the

homepage. I've always believed that it's the vegetables that make

food taste great and not the meat.

Anyway, after many years and at 273.5 lbs (at 5.3 feet in height),

I've just started doing something about my health. I still can't say

I'm a vegetarian, but I've eaten less meat for so many years because

I am more fond of vegetables. I'm obese because I haven't been

exercising. I've just started playing badminton last Wednesday. I

hope I can supplement it with a good diet on fruits and vegetables.

By the way, I'm 31 years old, male and living in the Philippines. I

have a 15 month old daughter and I would like to be around and

healthy when she goes to college some day.

Question: Does rice (boiled not fried) make us fat?

I think that brown rice is a very healthy food, and everything in moderation

is a good policy.

No. The only that makes you fat is eating more calories than you

expend with exercise and existing. You can check out room42

http://www.room42.com/nutrition/basal.shtml - it will give a general

idea of how many calories you need just to exist, and some

additional info.

On the other hand, if the primary components of your diet are white,

refined, and/or otherwise processed... you may not get fat but

you're likely to be unhealthy.

Plain boiled rice should not make us fat. It is good to eat because it helps

transport a lot of rubbish from the bloodstream - this rubbish being mobilised

by the vegetables that we eat. If we do not eat items (rice being one of them)

that transport them from the body we can end up with arthritis - which happens

fairly frequently after people do an unbalanced detox.

I believe everything in moderation. If you eat to much rice, sure it will make

you fat....that is true of all foods. Good luck with your weight loss!

Too much food and too little exercise makes us fat.... Carbs are

equally as bad as fat. At least fat has some nutrition and carries

some vitamins; many carbs like sugar (the biggest culprit in American

diets), white flour and white rice have little nutritional value, and

we eat way too much of them.

Thank you,I have Arthritis and have always wondered if there is a connection

between what I eat and the flares that I get. Are there any other members

who can suggest foods that might help.

Thanks in advance,

Jeff.

the knowledge that we can take care of our own health by

Hi,

I don't know if that is true for everyone with arthiritis, However my dad has

rhumitoid arthritis and he needs to stay away from the night shade. Although

I think that he is ok with cooked tomatoes.
