Guest guest
Yep, I saw the notice for this group on mainpage and thought I'd join. I only recently went vegetarian (lacto-ovo for now), mostly because my body could no longer stand the karmic hit I felt I was taking. I've been meatless for about five weeks or so now. I will decide at a later date if I need to go vegan; I just thought I would make the first step first. I'm also a PETA member and though I don't thoroughly agree with everything they stand for, my eyes have been opened about not only cruelty to the animals in processing plants, but to the employees, and how the atmosphere of cruelty does horrible things to people. OK, this is not an ad for this group, so don't worry, I'll shut up now!! I still cook meat for my husband and son, because I feel this is a personal decision for everyone and they are adults and I'm not going to force anyone. I do, however, feel free to nag my husband about the types of meat he eats, for health reasons. :-) It really is the only nagging I do. I swear!! (my son is a bit better about less processed food) I've been overweight all my life, but fortunately to date, my heart, cholesterol and BP have been good. However, I have had problems with gastric reflux that have lessened to almost none since I gave up meat. I try to watch the dairy and egg, and have a ton of TVP products that I adore. I was fortunate bec. I've always loved tofu, soy milk and other veggie protein sources, and we long ago gave up white bread and mostly white rice. I also love to cook and enjoy the challenge of learning a new way to cook. So I hope to learn a lot and share what I can.
