Guest guest
Hey- With the rush of people i've seen introducing themselves in the past day, I figured I would too. Like others, i found this group on the main page and decided I should join. I've been a vegetarian for about 8 months now, after a year of debating whether I should do it (by far, the best choice I've made). Now, I'm trying to be vegan. I don't think it will happen because at most restaurants around here the only thing that isn't essentially a steak (albeit maybe another meat) is a salad or pasta dish with dairy inextricably included. So yeah, that's my little story. Oh yeah, I'm 17 and live in riverside county, calif. I'm looking forward to some great camaraderie and excellent recipes, especially ones with solid soy products in them! In Peace, -Ted

One thing I can suggest to you for when you go out, which works really well here in the SE where restaurants don't serve much veg stuff - if it's a sit-down place, and not the busiest timeof the day, just ask the waiter to ask the chef if he could make something up that's vegan! Most times, they're quite willing, and one even told me it made his day because he was tired of making steaks all day... :-) Amy
Guest guest
Hi Ted, there are some good placed in Riverside area you can get good food! Try Sikh owned/operated " indian " food places, many can put together vegan and vegetarian meals if asked... you can shop at Clark's in either San Bernardino or Loma Linda.. again,,, TONS of food items, many freezer ready! There is Sprouts in Temecula, and another natural food place is in Riverside in the downtown area.. keep your eyes peeled, you will be amazed at how many places are out there which offer stuff! of course straight vegetarian is easier than vegan.. but it isn't impossible! Do a restaraunt search of the area... you will find stuff! - Amy Veg-Recipes Monday, May 10, 2004 2:52 PM Re: New guy > Now, I'm trying to be vegan. Guest guest
<<<I don't think it will happen because at most restaurants around here the only thing that isn't essentially a steak>>> Ted, I was at a steak house yesterday and asked them to make the southwestern wrap without the chicken. It was good!!! The rec. that was made on here to ask the chef to make a vegan meal is brilliant. I am definitely going to try that too. I suspect that in about 3 years we will be seeing vege/vegan entrees like we're seeing the low carb ones now offered on most menus. I say that because that's about how far ahead I've been in the low fat, low carb and now the vegetarian way of eating I evolve to. I truly envy the folks that have gotten to this years ago. I'm just a bit slower :-) Listening to an interview by Jeff Rense with Mark Rasmussen is what turned me around. It's in the archives if you want to listen to it. www.rense.com <http://www.rense.com/> June 20, 2003 Anna
