Guest guest
Hi All, On the cholesterol discussion. I am 5 feet tall and weigh 200 pounds. I have been doing a food combining diet for 6 weeks and am working out 4 to 5 times a week. I've known for a couple of years that I needed to totally cut meat out of my diet, but have had a hard time making a transition. But, when you are ready to change, it comes easily. The exercise and food combining have come easily, so as of yesterday, I have totally cut out meat. Due to my weight and previous fairly sedentary lifestyle, I have had two full physicals in the past year to ensure safety in these changes in my life. Both times, my cholesterol has been text book perfect. My sister, who has a diet high in starces and fats also has perfect cholesterol. My best friend, on the other hand, who is my size and has the same diet that I used to have has off the charts cholesterol and is on serious meds for it. Her father's family suffers from high cholesterol and blood pressure (she has both). Point being....cholesterol can be diet related. However, peoples bodies process differently which explains why all of the women on my mother's side have very low cholesterol...which is amazing as we live in the South. I will continue to have my cholesterol checked yearly, but don't feel it is a concern at this point. Dana ===== For the May Day is the great day, Sung along the old straight track. Guest guest
Yes Dana, cholesterol can have a lot to do with heredity. In fact, there is a commerical for Lipitor that demonstrates this - in one commerical there is a basketball coach, another a professional surfer who is a vegetarian - and both suffer from high cholesterol. Unfortunately you cannot do anything about heredity. And my condolences to those folks. Often medication is the only thing that will help. No amount of diet modification will even touch cholesterol levels that become extremely high due to heredity. A vegetarian diet certainly and regular exercise helps but often it is not enough. It is serious and if lifestyle changes don't help please ask your doctor about cholesterol lowering medications. Your heart will thank you for it, and your family will be happy to know you'll be around a few more years.
