I am a fairly new vegetarian, less than a year. My husband and two teens still eat meat and don't plan to stop but they fully support me :-) I have a question. I have heard that soy and tofu aren't good for you. Is this true? I love tofu and eat it at least twice a week. Jenni Find local movie times and trailers on Movies. Guest guest
thank you for your input! I was just starting to sweat it! I am a new vegetarian, but I also don't want to die from breast cancer either! I was starting to think maybe eating soy and being vegetarian is too risky! Hopefully you are the rule and not the exception! - Sandy Abernathy Veg-Recipes Monday, May 10, 2004 10:25 AM RE: Soy and Tofu I've eaten soy and tofu for almost 34 years now and raised my kids on it too It hasn't hurt us any. Guest guest
Hello, I attended a talk/workshop on breast awareness a few months back and the health workers running it recommended soya in the diet because it lowers the risk of getting breast cancer. I think soya gives a slightly increased risk of ovarian cancer (from something I read a while ago but don't remember exactly). But only slightly. It's also a food that some people have allergies to. I think you have to weigh up whether it's a food that suits your particular needs. It's possible to avoid GM soya if you buy organic. -Karen - Holiness Apostolic Veg-Recipes Tuesday, May 11, 2004 2:16 PM Re: RE: Soy and Tofu thank you for your input! Guest guest
--- Thanks for letting me know the link is dead! Here's a working link to the same article: http://www.findarticles.com/cf_0/m0826/1_19/97115870/p1/article.jhtml Yvona Fast Employment for Individuals with Asperger Syndrome or Non-Verbal Learning Disability: Stories and Strategies, Jessica Kingsley Publishers, 2004. " Today soy is known as an inexpensive source of protein. Both the Food Guide Pyramid and Nutrition and Your Health: Dietary Guidelines for Americans, fifth ed., list soy foods as a way to meet dietary guidelines. A one-cup (8 oz.) serving of tofu, for example, is listed as a serving suggestion in the meat and beans Group.
