Guest guest
Hi All, I've been lurking (reading but not posting) for a week or so now, so I think it's about time I said " Hello " . I'm Martin, I'm Scottish, 36 years old, and have lived in London all my adult life (I grew up in Edinburgh). I've been vegetarian since I was 14. Makes me feel ancient to say it but it's amazing to see how much more mainstream vegetarianism has become in the last 22 years, particularly in the UK. I'm lucky enough to get to travel a lot in my job and it's really interesting finding places and good veggie stuff to eat around the world. I visit the US four or five times a year and would say things have improved there quite a bit in the last few years too, but y'all still have some catching up to do. A couple of useful links to share... The Vegetarian Society of the UK has some good material for new or would-be vegetarians on their web site (somebody was asking for this sort of stuff yesterday)... http://www.vegsoc.org/newveg They've also been running a campaign recently to raise awareness among caterers and restaurant owners that fish are not vegetables. Sorry if this ruffles anybody's feathers, but somebody who eats fish is not a vegetarian - it's like claiming to be vegan but still eating eggs! Somebody suggested the word " piscetarian " as an alternative but it might not catch on. http://www.vegsoc.org/fish/fish.htm Looking forward to some interesting recipes and stuff (if I can work out these odd " cup " things... what's wrong with grammes?<G>) - and if I can work out the Mastercook format, I might post some too.
