Guest guest
Barbara Spirulina is a Vegan source of B12 and Anaemia is not a vegan problem it is a problem of incorrect diet Craig Anemia can be a problem, especially for vegans. The problem is B12, as another post suggested -- look that post up for some ideas on supplementation. Fortified cereals, meat, fish and poultry are the most plentiful sources of B12. Adults need about 2.4 micrograms per day; one egg has 0.65 micrograms, a cup of nonfat milk 0.93 micrograms, egg substitute has 0.20 micrograms per quarter cup (equals one egg), both pinto beans and whole wheat flour have 0. B12 is difficult for the body to absorb; the typical approach to B12 deficiency is shots to get it right into the bloodstream. Someone mentioned a site where you can look up nutrients. The one I like is the USDA Nutrition Database, which is the source everyone who calculates nutrition uses. It's at http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/search/ Barbara At 12:50 PM 5/7/2004, you wrote: >For new years I went vegetarian (vegan for the most part) and >recently was diagnosed as anemic. Guest guest
--- Anemia can be a diet issue but it can also be a health issue. I have Thalycemia which is a blood disorder that no food or iron pills can help and I am very anemic from it.
