Guest guest
Craig, Thank you very much for providing the detailed menu you feed your dogs. It does sound rather time-consuming at first, but I guess I am already cooking for my dogs a bit anyway. I have to give one of my Saint's extra fiber in his food due to a sensitive digestive system; right now I supplement his kibble with oatmeal. I used canned pumpkin as a supplement for him for a long while, but changed over to oatmeal in the last year. I am curious - how large are your dogs? I have over 350 pounds of dogs; I spend a lot in dog food right now, but I am wondering how switching to vegetarian would affect my dog food " budget " . I have a couple of other questions: 1) how many times per day do you feed your dogs, and 2) approximately how many cups (or other measure) per feeding (if more than 1x/day) do you feed your dog(s)? Again, thank you for providing the menu details. I really appreciate it. I have three large dogs, all of which are currently eating standard " premium " dog food, and would love to learn the specifics of your dogs' vegetarian diet. I have been a vegetarian since Earth Day in 1990. Thanks much. Guest guest
Jane, I guess I left that part out well the main meal I feed once a day 2 cups veg 2 cups of other and about 5-7 of the biscuits I cut the biscuits in about 1 inch squares later in the day I feed them about 10 of the biscuits one dog is 22 kilo (48lbs) the other is about 30 kilo (66lbs) the veggies you use don't have to be AAA quality you can use stuff you normally throw out like the stem of the broccoli or the leaves of cauliflower the only restriction is stay away from onions you will save money over store bought food (if you don't mind the time) I really find now that I am in the routine it takes me maybe 1-2 hours a week at most I buy most of the ingredients from a local feed store I always buy in bulk to save money I store the beans and stuff in large jars I was able to acquire from the local Deli I planted turnips, bok Choy and Kale in the garden just for a steady source of greens for the dogs we go to a garden market every week to buy much of what we need at first when the I switched the dogs over I added a couple spoons of honey so they would eat (as we are vegan the honey is no longer in the house but it was the lessor of evils at the time) some times we stir fry or pan fried our food if there is anything left over a little oil or sauce in the pan they get that as well the love a little flavour in their food so when I make the Bean mix I add a pinch of Cajun season play around a bit you can probably see the idea is variety and nutrition also as far as portion I would give them as much as they want at first the vitamin mix is pretty important cause it covers all the essentials but they should get most of that in the food anyway but just in case =o]] hope that helps all the best Craig good dawgs [gooddawgs] Thursday, May 13, 2004 8:53 AM Veg-Recipes Re: The Dog Menu for everyone who asked ~~a couple more questions for Craig~~ Craig, Thank you very much for providing the detailed menu you feed your dogs.
