Guest guest
I have IBS and use enteric coated peppermint capsules and find them very beneficial when taken after eating. I have read about the benefits of 1-2TBS of apple cider vinegar in a glass of water taken in sips while eating will also ease digestive problems. Lastly, FIBER FIBER FIBER! That's always something that people need to stay healthy, and it helps a lot. I also stay away from coffee and other high caffine foods. Although my condition is compounded by another GI disorder, I also agree that how you treat your body has a lot to do with the symptoms. Becuase of this other problem, I cannot eat high acid foods like tomatoes and cucumbers (for some reason); however, I find that avoiding these known triggers has improved my IBS. Smoking and nicotine, like coffee is such a strong stimulant, that they can intensify IBS flare ups. IBS food trigges are unfortunately a matter of trial and error. I kept a food diary for the longest time and tracked how each things effected me, personally. What upsets me, may not hurt you. If your IBS is an emotional trigger, then learn what it is and how you can calm down. Sometimes, your body just needs to " work through " things and just listen to it. Overtaking of OTC meds like maalox and immodium may actually hurt more in the long run because your body gets used to the anti-spasmotic help and may lesson your natural muscle control. If the pain gets too much or there is blood, please contact a doctor. I ended in the ER once after 3 days of agony- don't put yourself through that! Like the original poster, exercise and yoga have helped me control my discomfort by getting my body moving and trying to stay more calm throughout my day. A balence ball has been a great help as well in centering my energy. I hope this rant helps!
