Guest guest
I just searched the crockpot recipes & saw Wostichire (terribly mispelled) & wondered if it is true that this has fish product in it or is that just a myth? Does anyone have a substitute. I'd like to make the chex mix but it includes this ingredient too. Ellen in WA Stampin' Up! Guest guest
Angostura is the only Worcestershire that I ever found that does not have sardines listed as an ingredient, BUT on the label it does say " Natural and Artificial Flavoring " so I don't know what that consists of. No, you're right. Worchestershire sauce has anchovies in it. Here is a brief history and ingredient examination of worchestershire sauce: http://www.cbbqa.com/articles/WorcestershireSauce.html There are vegetarian worchestershire sauces. Check the labels for ingredients. One brand is (not sure if I'm spelling this right) Angostura. Also check out the house brands, for example, Kroger worchestershire sauce has no animal products in it. You can also use soy sauce instead of worchestershire in some recipes though you'll lose some of the special spice flavors such as the tamarind that way. Finally, you can make your own vegetarian worchestershire sauce! There's a recipe for it in the book Vegan Vittles, by Joanne Stepaniak: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1570670250 Hope this helps!
