Guest guest
It is a great book, and I have another I really recommend for those who, like me, have been the 'fat girl' all our lives. I like reading success stories -- people who've actually BEEN the fat girl and managed to get healthy and stay there. Lisa Delaney not only did that, she wrote a book called " Secrets of a Former Fat Girl: How to Drop Two, Four (or More!) Dress Sizes - and Find Yourself Along the Way. " I wrote a book review of it on my blog if anyone's interested in hearing more about why it was meaningful to me. http://eatbreathemove.blogspot.com/2008/12/book-review.html Anna On 8/1/09 2:37 AM, " drpatsant " <drpatsant wrote: > I have also read Skinny Bitch and would > heartily recommend it to anyone who wants to lose weight or simply > learn how to eat in a healthy vegetarian way. Guest guest
I also own the Skinny Bitch books and was quite surprised with some of the facts in them. If I was still eating meat when I started reading them I wouldn't be now. I also own a lot of vegetarian cookbooks, I like to browse through to find interesting meals to make. My biggest problem is I live in Canada, in Thunder Bay, Ontario, and we do not have all of the ingredients that are in a lot of the recipes. For those who don't know, Thunder Bay is about 3 1/2 hours drive north from Duluth, Minnesota, or 5 1/2 - 6 hours from Minneapolis/St. Paul. We are about 3/4 hr from the border. A friend of mine an myself have set up a challenge to loose some weight, we figured if we did it together (the weigh ins) then we would have someone to be accountable to besides ourselves and it might help. I am wanting to start a walking program, have a new MP3 player to use, but it is -19 c today with a wind chill of -26 c. Hopefully it will warm up enough to walk or I will just have to dress for it. All for now, have a great week. That's fantastic! No wonder you're 'hooked' on vegetarianism I have also read Skinny Bitch and would heartily recommend it to anyone who wants to lose weight or simply learn how to eat in a healthy vegetarian way. I admit I was doubtful when I first heard of the book - crazy title and all that - but it does an excellent job at motivating people to give up the stuff that harms them as well as harms the animals and environment. Splendid job. (Anyone who hasn't seen it should see if they can borrow it from their local library - it was certainly in ours.) And good for you for helping your girls towards a vegetarian lifestyle. I know some people think vegetarianism is something kids 'choose for themselves when they grow older' (a bit like political parties), but it seems to me that, if you know something (eg. animal flesh) is harmful and that avoiding it is healthy, then it makes good common sense gently to persuade those minors entrusted to your care towards the less harmful way as early as possible. (Think drugs, for eg., right?) And of course there's also the respect for life which I think we all try to teach our children :)As I say, good for you and good luck with that. Guest guest
How do you dress for -26 C? I was totally stuffed today with a long sleeved shirt, a football jersey (GOOOOO GATORS!), and sweatpants. The most difficult part was that I am wearing sneakers (I live in flip flops) I can't imagine even stepping foot outside in freezing weather! Good luck losing the weight. Guest guest
Pretty much the same way you dress for -40! Long johns, two thick pairs of socks, boots, ski pants if you've got'em, sweater, parka, 2 pair mittens, scarf/muffler, tuque, and keep moving! I have been keeping up my 30 min per day walking schedule, through -20 to -40, snow, slush, ice, drifts, etc. Unfortunately, I've also had to wait an hour for the bus some of those days. Frozen fingers and toes aren't much fun! Guest guest
you just dress warm and in layers. Today it is even colder. I have on jeans, a sweatshirt, socks (which I hate wearing) and running shoes. I have a warm winter jacket and mittens. That is to get into the car and drive to work. If I was outside walking I would put on long underwear, winter boots, a hat, warmer jacket and warm mitts. I have lived here all of my life and it is something I am used to. Some days it is just too cold to go out, but that is mostly when there is a wind chill. have a great day. The most difficult part was that I am wearing sneakers (I live in flip flops) I can't imagine even stepping foot outside in freezing weather! Good luck losing the weight.
