Guest guest
Hi Fraggle > ah...canterbury Well, the same county. Not quite sure how close they are together. I can't help thinking of an American TV presenter that used to do a late night metal chart - they made some comment about Magnum coming from Manchester - when it was pointed out to them that Magnum actually came from Birmingham, they had real trouble understanding that the two places weren't the same!!! :-) BB Peter --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Guest guest
Hi Fraggle > doesn't england have a good rail system Hahahahahahahaha - ROFLMAO - hahahahahahahahaha. Good one! > ...er has privitization ruined that as well?? Errmmm - more ruined by Ernest Bevin (?) in the 1940s (and, no, I don't remember when it was good!!!) To give you an idea, I live about 20 miles outside of Central London - but I have to drive into London when I go to gigs because there aren't any trains home after about 11pm. The cost of a train ticket for that 20 mile journey is about £18 - that's about 30 US Dollars worth, and that's only if I drive into the nearest town - if I want to go from the branch line station it's another about £4 on top - and there are only three trains per day. Then you've got to pay additional once you get to London if you want to go outside of walking distance from Waterloo station. Of course, they have special things like travel cards which are cheaper, but you can only get them if you are travelling during certain (unpopular) hours. I used to get the train regularly when I was at University - I do not recall a single ocassion during those three years when the train was actually on time. Then there's the frequent delays due to the most fantastic reasons - some of my favourites: 1. The wrong sort of snow 2. Leaves on the line 3. The windscreen wipers not working (that was a 45 minute delay while they found a new engine with working wipers) 4. Broken Signals 5. Broken tracks. And then there's the insessant engineering works..... OK - I think that'll do for the rant, although I'm sure I could go on!!! BB Peter --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. You know, of course not, it's only a spot with > huge lit up signs all over the place! I remember getting lost in London during my first week at University. I got on a bus which I thought would take me to Hyde Park. It was the right bus, but I'd picked the wrong side of the road, and ended up going in the wrong direction. I started to think something was up when I realised that I still wasn't at Hyde Park after half an hour, and the map suggested it should have taken about 5 minutes!!!! While we were there we went to Demuths restaurant and had a lovely meal. Guest guest
Nikki I was just checking - cos for all I know there could be a Picadilly Square as well. We took a wrong turn in London last night, and ended up at Picadilly Circus, and seeing the Christmas lights - so maybe it wasn't such a bad mistake after all. Jo > Darnit!
