Guest guest
When I flew to the states with continental I managed to get the vegan option which was ok for the dinner (Mexican corn tortilla wrap with fruit salad for dessert), but useless for breakfast (bread roll with jam) and beverages (no soy milk for coffee/tea). The travel agency I booked with said that basically you could have *one* option: vegan (so wheat/gluten included), gluten-free (so non-vegetarian), or lactose intolerant (so again non-vegetarian). It's not like there's only three of us in the world!!! hugs, GeorgyGirl Hi There! I was wondering how people handle ordering an airline meal. I am noticing that most airlines do not really have a vegan gluten free choice. Depending on the airline, they have several choices asian vegetarian, Hindu vegetarian strict vegetarian etc.. Really I guess no one knows what they are getting until the meal arrives. Does anyone have experience with this? I think I am going to be stuck bringing my own food but are there any other options for me? I am a vegan and gluten free with a legume allergy. Cheers Topeka
Guest guest
Agreed. I recently flew to Amsterdam from Vancouver. I had food with me. Thank God, because the food they served me was beyond atrocious. It was so bad, I had to have them take it away from me, because the very smell of it was making me and the people around me sick. It was unreal. Curried fish? (Never mind that I didn't want fish... they only let me pick one option, and I went with gluten-free as opposed to vegetarian or milk-free). But curried fish?! On an airplane? No thanks. And the stuff beside it (I honestly have *no* clue what it was) was so bad I had to spit it out. I managed one swallow of the fish at least, but this other stuff was non-recognisable and horrific to taste too. Guest guest
I'm not doing any flying anytime soon, but my husband and I are attending a training conference at the end of the month. We booked a hotel room with a refrigerator and microwave oven and plan to bring food with us. Even though the conference is providing lunches and a continental breakfast and my employer is footing the bill for the whole thing, I'm bringing food. The only time's I've had trouble with this diet is when I ate out. Since we will be gone for three days, I'm not taking a chance of becoming ill. I already checked with the hotel banquet manager and they have no problem with me bringing in my own food for the luncheon since feeding me would require a major overhaul of their cooking plans. (Breaded chicken, salad with croutons, bread on the tables, etc.). So here is what's on my menu: bags of salad, a loaf of homemade GF pumpernickle bread (the only one my hubby will eat), fruit, soy cheese, Thai noodles (the one's that cook by sitting in hot water), GF soy sauce, hummus, tortilla chips, refried beans, GF salad dressing and extra coffee (the hotel rooms never give you enough coffee). I will probably make a couple of homemade " TV dinners " that we can heat up in the microwave. Later in the evening, we can go out for drinks or socialize with our co-workers. My lunch will probably consist of the soy cheese sandwiches (tomato, lettuce and cucumber), chips and carrot sticks. > Hi There! > > I was wondering how people handle ordering an airline meal.
