Sugar allergies?

Hey there everybody! Okay, I just had a pretty sugary lunch and I feel awful!

(It was a special family Friday lunch, hence the indulging in the sweets!) I

feel headachy and nauseated, and I'm wondering if I have a full-blown sugar

allergy. Does such a thing exist? I know sugar's certainly a baddie, but can

one be actually allergic?

Well, I suspect that you didn't eat straight sugar for lunch. What

did you actually eat? Cupcakes, chocolate, candy? There are lots of

other potential allergens in there, as well as your body being

overworked to process all of the extra sugar and fat.

Oh, I'm so ashamed, but...root beer and frozen custard.  :-(  I had a veggie

Reuben and french fries as well.

I know, I know...SO bad!  Like I said, it was a special Friday treat.  I sure

don't do this much, as I'm trying to lose weight and save money.  I just got

caught up in the family fun and the Valentine's Day revelry...   :-)

So, anyway, too much junk, or too much sugar, or both?  Probably both?

My suspicion would be the french fries. Were they dry and crispy, or

oily and soggy?

The fries were dry and crispy.  The Reuben did have real cheese...maybe that,

plus the custard?  Dairy allergy?

(The reason I initially suspected sugar is because I rarely RARELY eat it, and I

eat the other items more and feel fine...but who knows?)

Ugh.  I'm foolish.  :-)  Tonight, if I eat dinner at ALL, it will be GREENS to

rebalance everything.

For anyone eating a lot of different things at a meal that they aren't

accustomed to, this could be a real tummy problem.

Allergies are a real PAIN...pun intended!

To actually find out about them it is like a mystery quest, so you may need some

help from an allergist.

Overeating sweets gives me a feeling that I can't describe, when I wake up in

the morning; I know it had been too much.

Everything seems to hinge on overeating.

I just read a line in the morning paper, and it said... " Clean out your pantry,

remove all temptations. I agree.

Thanks for the great discussions.

I agree, Barb. If you want to change your eating style you meed to clean our

your pantry. It really doesn't work to say, " I'll start as soon as I've eaten up

all that xxxxxxx " becaie ot teaches you that eating things up - including things

that are not healthy or good for you - is more important than starting on a new

lifestyle when you know it's right to do it. True. We've all been there to make

those choices!

Anyway let us know how you're doing - good for you for being so committed!

Love, Pat

It definitely helps to keep sugar temptation out of my pantry.  I was doing very

well when we were at home with staying away from sweets because I just didn't

buy any.  We are now in FL for the winter and DH goes shopping with me.  Of

course, I don't complain when he says let's get some donuts, and of course i

help eat them.  I'll need to have a talk with him before we go shopping again.

I feel like I have a hangover if I eat too many sweets and just a little makes

me want to sleep.  My fasting blood sugar is fine, but I suspect it goes

up faster than average when I do eat sugar..  Peggy
