Guest guest
Hi Barbara, Someone on the list may have suggestions for a resource that doesn't have gelatin capsules. We use the 'oil' by the teaspoon in our family and I make salad dressing out of it, or add it to a bowl of hot cereal, and that type of thing. Sometimes the flavor is disguised by the addition of lemon juice and herbs. Does your son mind the flavor of fresh ground flax seeds? If you can find gluten-free carob (very tough to find it both gluten free AND vegan, as it's usually sweetened with malt barley syrup), you can add carob to the flax seeds as you grind them and it hides the taste. Chocolate also works well for this. Plain carob powder would work too --- but would be somewhat messier than chips or block. We grind them together in a coffee mill that we use for seeds. What ideas do others have? ~ LaDonna ~ >>>Right now I have a question about finding Flax oil capsules. My son is suppose to take flax oil but he hates the taste of it. I have found flax oil capsules but so far they all have gelatin capsules that use animal derivatives. I can put the oil in food sometimes but he doesn't like it to well. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

My friend from Roseburg, Oregon loves the compounding pharmacy in her community. I don't know if we have one in our locale or not. I'll have to check. I've tried the cinnamon flax oil. Heck, I've tried shooting it (a la hard liquor). I've used it for dressing. Added it to yogurt. I've tried freshly ground seed in hot cereal. No matter what, my gorge gets up and I end up burping *and* dry heaving for the next 24 hours, wishing I could actually throw something up. Maybe it makes him feel like crap. I certainly have an aversion to the stuff now, purely learned conditioning. Bleagh. You can buy 00 vegicaps at some health food stores. Try chasing the nasty stuff with a handful of grapes--that cuts the burping reaction for my husband, but still makes me feel like crap. ygg
Guest guest
Barbara- There are two ways we take flax oil. The first is I put it on my salad at lunch time with my other salad dressing and it is really okay. The second is I buy Cinnamon flavored flax oil and mix it in with my apple sauce. In College PLace, Andys market used to have butterscotch flavered, that was our favorite on apple sauce, but I have not seen it anywhere else. Amy L - Barbara Boggs Thursday, October 20, 2005 6:02 PM Flax oil ? Hello! I am new and hope I am doing this right! I very excited to be told about this group as we found out my son had to go on a gluten free diet (among other restrictions). I realized real fast I needed help! So here I am and so far looking around at the recipes I came to the correct place! Right now I have a question about finding Flax oil capsules. My son is suppose to take flax oil but he hates the taste of it. I have found flax oil capsules but so far they all have gelatin capsules that use animal derivatives. I can put the oil in food sometimes but he doesn't like it to well. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Barbara FareChase - Search multiple travel sites in one click. Guest guest
Thanks to everyone! We did it! He got it down and so did we! Some tried it in frozen strawberries run through the champion juicer and others did applesauce. We couldn't really taste it when it was mixed in. I don't know I didn't think of mixing it with other salad dressing. Actually, that will only work for three of us the other four don't like salad dressing, I really think I like the idea of the flavored kind. I didn't know there was such a thing. You can probably tell I am very new at this! You've all been of great help! Barbara FareChase - Search multiple travel sites in one click. Guest guest
I am so glad you were able to get it down. Soon it will be no trouble at all. I take a mixed flax seed oil that has primrose and other stuff in it. Makes a huge difference in how I feel. Amy L - Barbara Boggs Thursday, October 20, 2005 9:48 PM Re: Flax oil ?
