Guest guest
Dear Cheryl, I don't know how you would feel about this. Cakes have become such a tradition for birthdays. I've been told you can't get a year older until you have blown out your candles. But at our house, we have broken away from cakes to other beautiful and delicious desserts, and we do put candles in them. At our house we have had birthday pies, or birthday baked apples (yum!). We have made homemade nut ice cream, and put candles in the birthday child's bowl. We have made fruit into a thick smoothy or sorbet, put it in a cake pan. Made some non dairy, gluten free icing, and piped it on top. Then we set some little toy on top for the decoration. One year it was a new toy sized John Deer Tractor for the birthday boy. For a grandma we know who likes to go hiking we made a little mound of icing and put on a loving family brand grandma doll and a little toy back pack from my son's miniature camping set. For me it is easier to make something completely different that naturally is gluten and dairy free, then trying to substitute everything. All that substituting drives me crazy, and often leaves us disappointed, because it doesn't taste like we expect it too. We still have a party. We still celebrate another year of life and health, and we are free from the weight of tradition. Maybe you could ask your son about his favorite kind of dessert and serve that. Hope it turns out to be a wonderful birthday for your son and all of you. Barbara in WA On Jun 9, 2006, at 12:18 PM, Cheryl Palmer wrote: > Where do I get corn free cream of tartar?
