One Week Success

Oh I know about the cold! Even though it's warm indoors, the idea of eating all

cold food is just a bit much. Try a hot cup of tea (herbal if you prefer) to

warm up and get yourself in the mood for that salad! Also, lots and lots of

leafy greens help to control cravings. I'm not exactly sure why that is, but

they really do :)

Where are you again btw? It slips my mind. I'm in SW Ontario - and we had a

windchill of something like minus 31C yesterday morning. It's not exactly warm

now either. Brrrrrrr! Roll on spring!

Love and hugs, Pat

Re: One Week Success

Thanks, the salad tip is great. I love salads during the warm

months. The winters are so long and so cold here that I find myself

craving hot, hearty meals. I buy salad fixins, intending to have

them several days a week and then I don't. I need to redouble my

salad efforts.

like) and eat it until you are just about full. Only then go for

the 'main course' - IF you can face one after all that lovely fresh

produce. And oh yes - put your main course on a small plate.

fit. Leslie Sansome is good, although there are lots of others. I

find a daily half-hour workout with her does a lot for my wellbeing

as well as my weight. Also, try a little jogging on the spot at home

while you watch, say, the news broadcase or a favourite programme on

TV. It all adds up, even three or four minutes of it at a time. And

walk everywhere you can walk - even ordinary walking helps to burn

calories and keeps your body fit and healthy.

Try topping your big salad with some nice warm bean chili instead of dressing.

Mmm.

Now that is SUCH a good idea - for me too. Thanks a bunch! (But not too much

chili - the point here is that one should eat all the raw veggies and greens

first, chewing through them, before embarking on higher calorie cooked food. To

follow that up with a 'main course' of more cooked food would defeat the whole

exercise.)

Anyway, whatever works for you, right? :) Keep those good ideas coming in. I've

never put chilied beans on my salad and I think that would taste great! Trying

it when I get back.

And about that, I'm going to be away from my computer for a few days but will

check in with you all on return. Over to you, Cindi!!!

In those cold winter months when you don¹t really want salad, try a big bowl

of home made veggie soup to fill you up with very few calories! I never

thought I¹d like rutabagas but since I¹ve gone vegetarian I¹ve been open to

trying new things ‹ and they are so good, especially in soups and stews!

Anna

My Favorite Veggie Soup

INGREDIENTS

1 large can of crushed tomatoes

1 large box of liquid stock (vegetable)

2 cups of water

1 medium onion, chopped

1 packet of vegetable or French onion dry soup powder

1 stock cube or teaspoon stock powder (chicken-style, beef-style or regular

vegetarian)

1 clove garlic, crushed

4 small bay leaves

1 Swede (rutabaga), peeled and diced

3Ž4 kg carrots

1Ž2 bunch of celery, including leaves

2 med capsicums, diced

2 zucchini, sliced

2 tomatoes, diced

METHOD

1. Chop all the veggies and put them in a big pot with the remaining

ingredients.

2. Add salt and pepper (not too much salt).

3. Boil rapidly for two minutes and reduce to a simmer until it's nice and

tender.

4. Remove bay leaves.
