Guest guest
Thank you and I did look......but I have literally no sweet tooth lol. I really do not like sweet things in the morning in the least. I was hoping for something different than a porridge or cereal recipe......but filling. If anyone has any other ideas, I would love to hear them. I am expecting and morning is a hard time for me. I would love to have a ready-made breakfast (nights are easier to do for me), but my family doesn't really like sweets that much........ Guest guest
susanlizme, it sounds like potatoes and savory ingredients in the crockpot might be a good bet. try this recipe and sub corn starch for the flour, maybe.... http://southernfood.about.com/od/crockpotvegetables/r/bl118c6.htm good luck, liz Discover Stay in touch with email, IM, photo sharing and more. Hi Sue, I'm not into " sweets " in the morning either, except I do love fruit! What types of foods do you like best for breakfast? Our family makes alot of potato dishes for breakfast (pre-boiled so that they are easy to grate and reheat) and we love Tofu Scramble with fresh vegetables. Unfortunately those are not " crock pot " recipes. I have seen potato dishes that can be made in the crockpot and that might be a convenient route for you to take. Do you like savory grains? I enjoy " plain " millet with salt. It can be served with a milk alternative or mixed with fresh herbs or cooked veggies like peas or lima beans for a nice breakfast " salad " . Quinoa and buckwheat can be served this way also. If you have a time-bake feature on your oven you could set the oven so a grain dish is baked early in the morning and done and ready to eat when the family wakes up. I use a shallow casserole pan and add a cup or two of a whole grain (brown rice; quinoa; millet; buckwheat; etc.) and then add double the amount of water. . ..with abit more to spare. Add salt and place on oven rack. Set the oven to bake for about 1 hour and to come on about an hour before you get up. This is abit like using a crock pot, but the grains do not become as " mushy " with the oven method as they do with the crock pot. How about savory soups or stews? Do you feel like eating them in the morning? They would work nicely in the crock pot. I know it's not a traditional food, but would make a great start to the day! ~ LaDonna ~ PS: During college I lived with family-friends for one year and we reversed our meals so that we had " dinner " for " breakfast " . . . " lunch " for " lunch " . . .and " breakfast " for " supper " . It worked very well! Our largest meal stuck with us all day. . .and I lost weight too! We would usually have popcorn and apples. . ..or cold cereal for our evening meal. Our morning meal was always fit for a king! Lentils, potatoes, cooked carrots, fresh bread, salads. . .yum! I wish I was organized enough to do that now!
Guest guest
one of my favorite breakfasts is hot brown rice (which is certainly crockpot-able) with lots of margarine. l sometimes use vegetable broth instead of water, and put in some onions and herbs. i pack it hot and eat it at work. i can't eat anything first thing in the morning. Bob's Red Mill has a cereal called Mighty Tasty GF Hot Cereal that you can really dress up or leave simple and it's still good. it's not sweet at all. snow On Wed, 01 Jun 2005 11:09:57 -0000, you wrote: >Thank you and I did look......but I have literally no sweet tooth lol. > I really do not like sweet things in the morning in the least. > >I was hoping for something different than a porridge or cereal >recipe......but filling. Guest guest
We eat a lot of Might Tasty GF Hot cereal. IN fact I buy it Bobs red mill in a large 25 pound bag. I was going to try it in the crock pot and see how it does. But we put in soy milk, soy butter and dryed fruit bits. It is our favorite breakfast. Guest guest
My kids eat a lot of the Mighty Tasty, too. I get the 25 pound bags. They put maple syrup on it or earth balance and Bac'uns (Frontier brand bacon bit substitute) Lisa
Guest guest
-These are great ideas!!!! Using the crockpot keeps me so I can eat anytime breakfast, and not bother anyone. My son gets up early, and every kid has their own morning schedules. And they all want a hot breakfast. I have lupus and have problems with nightshades, so i try to use minimal potatoes and tomatoes and eggplant. I am thinking some kind of layer casserole. We have done blackbeans lately, i have done rice pudding but no one here really agrees on sweet desserts. I also have a toaster oven. My illness makes mornings kind of rough on me, but nights are better, so I could do prep work at night and eat in day. We eat a lot of zucchini, carrots, cauliflower, squash, greens (lettuce, watercress, wild lettuce, ), beans like mung, black, black-eyed peas, lentils. We are gfcf and vegan and soy free. We also don't eat northern beans (allergy). Thank you so much for your help!!!!!! I would so much love any ideas that were soupy (but not watery), grain based, and layered casserole.
