Guest guest
Hello! I have a question about what folks will serve their families and guests for the holidays. I'm GF and vegan (mostly raw vegan)and my daughter is vegan. We're having non-vegan non-GF guests for Thanksgiving dinner and I'm wondering if you can suggest some successful and yummy recipes (main dishes and side dishes, mostly) that I can try from the files? Thanks!! -Mary Mail - PC Magazine Editors' Choice 2005
Guest guest
My dad and step-mom come to our house every year for Thanksgiving. I usually try to create favorites- just making them vegan. This year, since my husband and 2 daughters tested negative for celiac, I'm having gluten dishes as well (like I'll make a gluten and non gluten dressing), so that makes things a bit easier. My step-mom has a few things that " must " be served. She brings those herself ( " real " pumpkin pie, whipped cream) I won't let anyone bring meat to our home (my 2 youngest would freak out about a dead bird on the table) but I'm ok with milk, eggs and honey if it'll keep peace. Just won't fix them. I try to keep things very simple, so no one objects to the " weird " ingredients. Our menu is; Mashed potatoes Gravy (I think I used the one from the archives) Dressing (just made from gf bread) Cranberry sauce Sweet potato casserole Corn on the cob Broccoli w/ " cheese " sauce Chocolate tofu pie That's what the kids have come up with so far. Folks'll be here for a week, so I'm busy planning other meals as well. And wine-yikes! I got an email from my former favorite winery saying that their wines are not vegan, so I have to start looking. Guest guest
Lisa, thanks for the menu ideas! Is the chocolate tofu pie in the archives? I'm wondering how to make the crust... P.S. I also wanted to mention a terrific cookbook that is available now through the vegfamily.com website. It's called " Vegan Family Favorites " and I submitted a couple of gluten-free vegan recipes to it. Great holiday gift idea! -Mary --- Lisa Watson <ozark_homesteader wrote: > My dad and step-mom come to our house every year for > Thanksgiving. > > > > I usually try to create favorites- just making them > vegan. Guest guest
Thanks for the cookbook idea.I'm gradually replacing my cookbook collection w/ vegan ones. The recipe my daughter uses for the chocolate tofu pie is in the archives.I think she used melted Tropical Source chocolate chips for the cocoa. She also sometimes adds a large glop of peanut butter or peppermint extract. Very good. She made the crust a nut crust (also in the archives) w/ Brazil nuts. I think this year we'll use Miss Robens graham cracker crust mix though. Lisa _____
Guest guest
Maybe they could each bring a plate of something that they like to take some of the weight off you.
