Guest guest
I think all are acceptable and it really depends on the country one is from Lynn. I heard someone once say that they avoid saying vay-gan because that is a term used in science fiction to refer to beings from the planets around the Vegan star system, and my australian friend says Vay-jan, but for the most part it's up to you. BL who says vee-gan

I suppose, technically, if you say " Vedge-atarian " it should also be " Vedge-un " . Dunno. How do YOU guys pronounce " vegan? " I've heard it a zillion different ways... Guest guest
My daughter went off to summer camp a " veejun " and came home a " vay-gun " :-) But, since reading that the name came from the beginning and ending sound of " vegetarian " , we agree that we are " vej-uns " .using those same sounds. Guest guest
> How do YOU guys pronounce " vegan? " I've heard it a zillion different > ways... > > Veegan > Vaygan > (both with hard " g's " ) > ---or--- > Veejen > Vayjen > Vejan (with a hard " e " ) > (all 3 with soft " g's, " or a " j " sound) Veegan, assuming that the second syllable contains a neutral sort of vowel sound, rather than some sort of exaggerated " a " as in cat. Don't think I've ever heard the last three, except perhaps from people who've never encountered the word before, and a soft " g " would be strange when followed by an " a " . I feel I could write this email a lot better if (1) I knew more about the recognised ways of writing phonetics and (2) I could rely on them coming out the same for everyone regardless of system or location! I've just opened an entirely vegan shop! Anna
