Guest guest
I would speculate selenium, maybe some other trace minerals. B12, of course. But of course you can get any of those in a multi . . . Pam On Tue, Feb 10, 2009 at 4:08 PM, Geoff Nelder <geoffnelder wrote: > I don't want to diss your veggie doc but it is a nonsense. Guest guest
Yeah, Geoff, I have a lacto-veggie doc who thinks that because of my age (I'm 69 this November) I should be drinking lots of milk. Well duh. I asked why and she said . . . . well, you can recreate THAT conversation with your hands tied behind your back/s! LOL Anyway, when I pointed out a few things it became obvious that she was simply saying what (almost) all docs say, what they were taught in med school (or picked up along the way). So I do what I know I must do, and she is thrilled because she thinks I'm following her advice (I haven't said so, but doesn't everyone? LOL) and that therefore her advice is the reason my health is so great. I admit, she doesn't say I should eat Me*t or F*sh - she knows better. That's a nonsense. So much harm being done in the world through ignorance!!!!! Thanks for writing in - you too pdw! It can't be for the amino acids (protein) nor the essential fats and vitamins. What is it in meat and fish your doc thinks you can't get from a non-animal source? Guest guest
I do get people telling me they¹d worry about calcium if they didn¹t consume dairy products. I find that so funny ‹ I mean, where did we get it from before we domesticated the cow and started taking it¹s milk? LOL Actually, consuming dairy can actually leech calcium from your body, which is why the countries with the highest dairy consumption also have the highest incidence of osteoporosis. Guest guest
Agreed, Geoff. As for pointing fingers, I don't figure any of us are in a position to do that We have all made our mistakes, made our choices and, for many of us, are still doing both. Of course, the difficulty is when wrong information is passed along as a given truth and then we have to decide whether to correct misapprehensions or to just let people go on doing what they want to do *shrug* Either way, no one will love you for it! Best, Pat --- http://beanvegan.blogspot.com http://www.vegandonelight.com/spice " The world is a stage, but the play is badly cast. " (Oscar Wilde) .. I agree that it is easy for a healthy fit vegan to be condescending and point fingers at 'almost' veggies but then when a problem occurs it can be a puzzle what to do. Guest guest
True enough. For me, I turn to dark green leaves for lots of calcium. Of course, one has to eat an awful lot of 'em! Guest guest
I would question a doctor who told me I had to eat fish, meat or dairy! I didn't quit because it hurt animals(well, that was part of it), but mainly I quit because it is so unhealthy!!!
