As tracking my food all week (well okay I missed out on Friday but

the rest of the week!), and the general upshot of this is that I have lost 4

pounds this week - this means I am down to 291.5 pounds aka 20 stone 11.5 lb or

132.2 kg.

Here's hoping for another good week for all of us!

Thanks Cassie

Yep eating Vegetarian (well mainly! apart from the one meal a fortnight when as

per docs instructions I eat ick), eating low fat (nothing over 5%) and tracking

my food to make sure I eat enough is doing the trick - so a new lifestyle is

well and truly kicked in :-)

Hi Peggy

Because I cannot eat nuts (fatally allergic) and this does tend to cut out a

load of seeds as well (go down the same packing line) my doctor (who is Veggie

and advocates a strongly veggie diet) wants me to eat m**t or f**h once a

fortnight to keep me healthy (rest of the time I eat tofu, mushrooms, pulses)

I don't want to diss your veggie doc but it is a nonsense. Admittedly

your allergies make getting a balanced nutrition more difficult but

certainly not impossiblle. It can't be for the amino acids (protein)

nor the essential fats and vitamins. What is it in meat and fish your

doc thinks you can't get from a non-animal source?

Don't worry, Pat, I can fill in the dots - hah.

I, too, have reached the age where children I've taught are now

practising doctors - of course a few others are unemployed or

gangleaders hey ho. I doubt it was my influence but two of my former

pupils are vegan doctors, which is encouraging. I agree that it is

easy for a healthy fit vegan to be condescending and point fingers

at 'almost' veggies but then when a problem occurs it can be a

puzzle what to do.

my age (I'm 69 this November) I should be drinking lots of milk. Well

duh. I asked why and she said . . . . well, you can recreate THAT

conversation with your hands tied behind your back/s! LOL Anyway,

when I pointed out a few things it became obvious that she was simply

saying what (almost) all docs say, what they were taught in med

school (or picked up along the way). So I do what I know I must do,

and she is thrilled because she thinks I'm following her advice (I

haven't said so, but doesn't everyone? LOL) and that therefore her

advice is the reason my health is so great. I admit, she doesn't say

I should eat Me*t or F*sh - she knows better. That's a nonsense.

How about beans or protein powder?  Or dairy products?  I'm vegetarian, not

vegan, but the idea of meat tends to turn my stomach.  I read that after not

eating meat for awhile, the body no longer produces the digestive juices

necessary to digest meats.  Peggy
