My son can not have soy. I used to try to make subs. There were all sorts of options involving different vinegars and seasonings and such. My favorite one had to go bye-bye when I went GF (marmite based). Anymore, I just don't use it, period. I do dip (veg, of course) sushi in a mix of rice vinegar, mirin, and wasabi. If a food absolutely needs some sort of savory kick, there's always good ol' MSG. ygg
Guest guest
Barbara we have a folder with some recipes for soy sauce subs in the files. Files > ***Recipes Posted to VGF*** > Condiments - Savory and Sweet. > Sauces - Savory > Soy Sauce Substitutes Here's another I found online. Low Sodium Soy Sauce Substitute Recipe 2 tablespoons sodium free beef bouillon (use beef-style for vegan) 2 teaspoons red wine vinegar 1 teaspoon molasses 1/8 teaspoon ground ginger 1 dash black pepper 1 dash garlic Powder 3/4 cup water In small sauce pan, combine and boil gently uncovered about 5 minutes or til mixture is reduced to 1/2 cup. Store in refrigerator. Stir before using. Makes 1/2 cup. , Barbara Boggs <mrsbusyb wrote: > > So what do those of you do for soy sauce who need to be soy free as well as gluten free? Guest guest
Sorry, can't help there. We don't have to be soy-free and I'm not fond of beef-style anything.
