Guest guest
I'm struggling to find a shampoo I can use, and I thought some of you might have suggestions. I'm allergic to gum (which includes things like pectic, algae, carageenan, hydrolyzed vegetable and/or plant protein, cellulose, and a host of other substances). All of the alternative shampoos I've found contain these ingredients. I'd welcome any possible alternatives anyone could offer.
Guest guest
I'm allergic to soduim laurel sulfate, so I've been searching for shampoos, too. Someone suggested I switch to baking soda. I haven't tried it yet. My friend just keeps the baking soda in squeeze bottle in the shower and pours it into her hand. The one catch is that you have to wean yourself off shampoo. She suggested washing with soda one day, then shampoo the next, then 2 days of soda, one day of shampoo, then 3 days of soda, etc. The hardest part, I think, is finding a squeeze bottle to use, lol! Hope this helps you some. Guest guest
Hi, We use Liquid Glycerine for shampoo. I buy it at the health food store and it is labeled " Liquid Glycerine Hand & Body Soap & Shampoo " . It is pure glycerine and just smells like vegetable soap. It gets you clean but doesn't latherup like a shampoo with all of the wierd stuff it. I often put a a drop of lavender, lemon, chamoile or pepperment essential oil to give it a nice smell, otherwise it is just clean with a vegetabley soapy smell and takes a little bit of getting used to without the commercially added perfumes. It is the only thing that I have found that we don't react too. The brand that I get is from " The Soap Works " Toronto Canada, I would imagine that there are others. It does take getting used to not having a shampoo lather like the commerical ones. It also comes in a plain bottle, without all of the pretty packaging. It looks like the stuff you would buy at the grain elevator to wash your work horse. My grandma says that is what they used to use in the " old days. " I usually find it by the laundry and cleaning soaps, not with the fancy packages of shampoo. I find it works best for my knee length hair with rain water from our cistern. I also use a vinigar or chamoile tea rinse after washing. Once my hair is dry, I finger comb in a couple of drops of pure Jojoba oil to keep it from getting dried out and I only wash mine once a week. If it seems to be dry again later in the week, I apply about 6 more drops of Jojoba oil. I don't use other hair products. I find with a long term vegan, no or low oil diet, my scalp doesn't get greasy and oily and I don't need to wash it near as much as I used to, especially as I don't use hairspray or any of those dirt collecting products. My hair has grown alot longer since I changed my diet and hair care habits. I hope that helps, Melanie , " felineaids " <felineaids wrote: > > I'm struggling to find a shampoo I can use, and I thought some of you > might have suggestions. > > I'm allergic to gum (which includes things like pectic, algae, > carageenan, hydrolyzed vegetable and/or plant protein, cellulose, and > a host of other substances). > > All of the alternative shampoos I've found contain these ingredients. > I'd welcome any possible alternatives anyone could offer. >
