Guest guest
I actually do not pay more than when we ate wheat. The thing is not to buy commercially prepared foods and to make as much as possible at home from breads and biscuits to meals. It's also important to keep it as simple as possible. With as much raw and fresh food as one can afford. I don't shop at major super markets but rather at wholesale stores, Walmart and ethnic stores. Stay away from the health food store for food purchases. For example at a major super market a packet of rice noodles costs $1.89, but at Walmart the same packet costs 87 cents. That's half price for the same brand and quality. Our family is 6 people - three of whom are a teen or an adult man so they have big appetites. Guest guest
Eat more naturally gf foods that are not high cost (corn, beans, rice, potatoes). Veggies, etc, still cost what they did before. Corn tortillas are inexpensive and can be bought nearly everywhere (although Mission is the only one I know that says gluten free right on the label). You can make your own broths (save odds and ends when trimming) from veggies, rather than buy special high-cost brands. Getting a grain mill lets you reduce flour costs significantly (and increase nutrition by using true whole grains). Baking your own also significantly decreases costs (but increases time). Buy in bulk or at ethnic stores. I get whole sorghum under $1/lb w/ S & H versus several $$/lb as flour at the local store. Brown rice is usually cheaper (as is tapioca flour) and better selection of varieties at asian grocers; garbanzos in bulk or at an indian grocer is $1/b vs $4/lb at grocery (same usually for lentils, which come in many varieties). Don't forget to add the savings from not eating out into the plus column of the gf diet (not to mention reduced medical bills and OTC digestive aids you may no longer need). > > > i am feeding an entire family on gluten free foods. is anyone out there > upset abput the cost of this food.any ideas as to what can be done?? --- [This E-mail scanned for viruses by Declude Virus]
