Guest guest
Sadly though media banks on spicy news, and that is unfortunately what sells best in todays competitive world if we are to believe the media and the press. Also although both the tragedies of families losing their children by electrocution or dog mauling are equally gruesome, but for the reader of a newspaper or the viewer of a channel it's the 'dog mauled death' that would appeal more. Guest guest
Link: http://www.ndtv.com/convergence/ndtv/story.aspx?id=NEWEN20070007208 AP: Inquiry ordered into boy's death Tejeswi Pratima, Uma Sudhir Thursday, March 29, 2007 (Hyderabad) A baby in Hyderabad died on Wednesday after being attacked by a stray dog. An official inquiry has now been ordered to find out why the baby had to be rushed from one hospital to another and was denied what could have been life-saving treatment. " They gave an injection and sent us to Niloufer. They refused admission and sent us to Fever Hospital, " said Meera, mother Ritesh. Ritesh's mother ran with from one hospital to another before he died of excess bleeding on Wednesday evening. At Hyderabad's Osmania General Hospital the baby was given first aid, anti-tetanus injection and directed to the specialised children's hospital Niloufer. But Niloufer told them to get an anti-rabies shot at the Institute of Preventive Medicine. The doctor on duty says the baby was bleeding with multiple bites on the abdomen and hips. But since the hospital does not have an in-patient ward, he was referred to go to Niloufer hospital for further treatment. Another detour to Fever Hospital and by the time the baby boy returned to Niloufer four hours later, to be put on a ventilator, it was too late. " It is alleged that the baby had been referred to three or four hospitals. Why was he referred and why was there so much delay in the treatment. According to what comes out of the inquiry approriate action will be taken, " said I V Rao, MD, Director Of Medical Education, AP. Critics say the question is who killed Baby Ritesh, a stray canine or an insensitive public healthcare system? aapn , " AZAM SIDDIQUI " <azam24x7 wrote: > > Sadly though media banks on spicy news, and that is unfortunately what > sells best in todays competitive world if we are to believe the media > and the press. > Also although both the tragedies of families losing their children by > electrocution or dog mauling are equally gruesome, but for the reader > of a newspaper or the viewer of a channel it's the 'dog mauled death' > that would appeal more. > > Azam > > On 3/29/07, Weintraub <weintraub wrote: > > I am not saying that showing other children dying of other causes is a PR > > strategy at all for the recent 7-8 month old baby being killed by stray dogs > > but just between all of us, isn't is interesting that the stray dog death > > story appeared on the front headline as national news for the Deccan " Boy > > dies after Dog Attack: 29 March, and below one for electrocution appeared > > inside as city news for Hyderabad.
