Guest guest
Deborah, My weight loss surgery was the open roux ny (gastric bypass.) Yes, it reduced the size of my stomach, but it also bypassed a small portion of my intestines in order to create malabsorption. Carnie Wilson had the same surgery, but I think hers was laparascope and not open like mine. My surgery was proximal--thank G-d. A distal bypass means that MOST of the small intestine was bypassed which creates GREAT malabsorption. Proximal means that very little was bypassed which creates minimal malabsorption. If you have heard about people with gastric bypass surgery getting sick, they usually had the distal bypass. However, I am not supposed to malabsorb from celiacs if I am maintaining a 100 percent gluten-free diet, right? Monday, July 3, is my daughter's second birthday. I will also be 44 on that day. I have been told that the pregnancy could have brought the celiacs out or made it worse, but I don't care. I would not trade her for anything in the world. She is my second child that I desperately wanted. Without the bypass, there was no way I would have been able to get pregnant again. Looking back, my auto-immune symptoms seemed to appear when I was 33 and got preggars with my son. It just did not get that bad until I got preggars for the second time. Like I said, I would not trade either of them for anything. It is worth going GF just to have them. Shoshannah
