Guest guest
Hi Barb ~ I'm glad you are enjoying your time here with us and I see you've made yourself right at home. :-) Yes, caring for sick/needy animal can be time consuming but being unemployed right now, I figured it was a great time to open my home since I have " free " time. Ah yes, portion control. It can be so hard to regulate and eat " normal " portions in a society where everything comes in huge portions! That was my biggest adjustment when I first started doing WW and why I had to buy a kitchen scale; I had no clue! It's interesting to weigh out some things and see what it is I am supposed to have instead of what I normally would have had. I now have a better eye for portions since I spent so much time weighing and measuring. My favorite Mexican restaurant in the area not only has veggie refried beans but their portions are great/what portions should be so if you clean your plate you don't need to loosen your belt. :-) Cindi --- On Thu, 3/12/09, BARBARA KIPPER <Kipper38 wrote: BARBARA KIPPER <Kipper38 Thanks C & P and OT dog problems " VEGSlim " Thursday, March 12, 2009, 11:50 AM Hi Cindy, I am fairly new to the group. I feel comfortable here and the help is wonderful. It is fun that you and Pat have organized this for us. I believe caring for animals is a " good thing, " but it does take a lot of time. Hi Pat, As for the piddle problem with young ones, and even older...we have been through this, but now are facing our old [14] lady dog's problems, of the same nature. This is a very sad situation. I know this is OT but if anyone has suggestions or vet help you have experienced, please contact me off list. Hanging in there with my portion control...it is a real task! Barb K. Guest guest
Glad you're enjoying the group About the dog problems: we struggled with our very good vet to find out what was 'wrong' with our girl's training/habits, and he suggested it was the 'spay' problem - that is (for those who don't know) a problem when spayed bitches develop incontinence problems either shortly after the spay op or even years later. Otherwise, he has said, it's 'behavioural' (meaning she could be trained out of it if she _would_ be trained out of it). Otherwise, no quibbles with our wonderful vet. Well, we kinda thought he was wrong on the 'spay' effect, because although as she gained in years and confidence and her accidents in the house were less frequent, suddenly she'd have periods of incontinence. Since this didn't coincide with any crisis or change that would suggest 'behavioural' problems, I suggested (again) it could a bladder/urethral whatever infection. He tested and said no. So years later he found struvite crystals in her urine plus infection after a particularly bad bout of incontinence (say every hour or less - anywhere it hit her), put her on antibiotics plus a special vet-prescribed (hah!) commercial diet, and it cleared up. I mean it all went away. Just like that. Obviously that isn't the answer to every problem - wouldn't it be nice if it were! But it does make me wish I had been more insistent before just in case that was the prob all along and it hadn't been properly tested for. *shrug* Anyway, here we are with an elderly (she's nearly 9) totally blind little beagle who is suddenly an angel as far as almost everything goes. The 'almost everything' covers the fact that one of us has to take her out about 1 or 2 each morning, but hey the moon and stars can be great at that time of night, and I always wanted to think of myself as a night person! LOL Let me know how you go with your little pupper. Just mark your message 'OT' as you have this one, and no one can complain, right?
