Orange Bars

--Dough--

1 oz. candied pieces of orange

3 oz. butter

3 oz. powdered sugar

1 egg

1/2 teaspoon orange zest

1 tablespoon orange liquor or juice

5 oz. flour

--Decoration--

5 oz. powdered sugar

2 tablespoon orange liquor or juice -- (2 to 3)

zest of 1 orange

2 oz. pistazzio nuts in small chunks

 

Dough: Cut candied orange in very fine slivers. Mix all ingredients for dough.

Cover dough and refrigerate for 30 minutes. Roll out dough to 1/8 inch onto

surface covered with some flour. Cut dough into bars of 2 x 1 inches. Put bars

onto parchment lined baking sheet. Bake at 400 F for 10 minutes. Let bars cool

 

Decoration: Mix powdered sugar, orange liquor and zest. Brush mixture onto bars

and top with pistazzio nuts. Let bars dry. (approximately 50 calories per

piece). For lemon bars: Replace candied orange, zest of orange, and orange

liquor with candied lemon, zest of lemon and lemon juice.
