Guest guest
First of all, when any produce is brought into this country from another country, it is immediately sprayed down with ethylene(?) gas as soon as it is unloaded. I don't know exactly how they keep it fresh during transit other than very strict temperature control. Cruise ships manage to keep produce fresh during long cruises but I don't know if it's a trade secret or not. Also, a lot of field workers in foreign countries don't have bathroom facilities, " go " where they happen to be working, and don't have a way to wash their hands afterwards. I do local produce only just to be on the " safer " side. There's probabaly a bunch of other reasons to be wary of imported raw foods so I'm going to support my local farmer.
