Guest guest
I was just on the website and this group has 796 members. I am shocked. Where is everyone? I'm not very good at posting messages but I wonder if there is a reason that we aren't posting much. Are we not sure we have anything constructive to say to help another person? Are we not wanting to admit that things aren't going well for us. Are we not doing well and are afraid of criticism? I know that I do better with my healthy eating when there is some ongoing dialogue between lots of people who are trying to do the same thing - lose weight. At least the group has slimming in the name so I am assuming that everyone here is overweight and trying to get healthier and thinner on a vegetarian diet. If I wasn't overweight I wouldn't be here. I'm a vegetarian for ethical reasons as well as health reason but I still have problems trying to control my weight. Is there anyone out there with any ideas? Guest guest
Hi Karen I'm glad to see the message from you. Maybe we can get others to join in a chat about our challenges. I need to lose about 25 lbs which may not sound like much to you but I face the same problems. I did lose 40 lbs last year but then drifted away from the healthy eating and gained 10 of them back. I'm determined to get those 10 back off first and then I'll start chipping away at the rest of them. My first challenge is to get my coffee consumption down. I know it revs up my appetite. I've been retired for about 15 years and spend a lot of my time quilting - not much exercise doing that but it feeds my soul. I'm in Ontario, Canada. Where are you? Guest guest
Jenn here in Oregon, mother of 5. It is currently baseball and lacrosse season, and among several other sports and kid activities I don't spend alot of time on e-mails that isn't work related. My hubby is currently away until May 2010 and I would love to lose a minimum of 80 lbs before he comes home, not that he'll mind one way or the other but I thought it would be nice. I would love to lose 25 lbs asap in anticipation for my next tattoo, my little gift to myself. I'll try to chat and join in as much as possible and maybe the support all around will help us all. Have a great week. Guest guest
Hi Karo, Nice to meet you. We have a similar weight loss goal. I want to lose 60 this year. So far have dropped just over 12 but I'm 30+ pounds lighter than I was at this time last year. I'm not familiar with Dr. Ornish's plan but I know some of our members are. I briefly joined an OA but found it much too religious for my taste. Never tried an actual online meeting though. Cindi --- On Mon, 5/4/09, Karen <karogden2 wrote: Karen <karogden2 Re: where is everyone Monday, May 4, 2009, 11:11 AM I'm new to the group and was wondering the same thing about this group. I would love for this group to be very busy and share together in our healthy weight loss journey. Karo, 54, retired, married, need to lose about 75lbs. I am a vegetarian, and love trying new recipes. Today for lunch we have bean burritos with collard greens, which was very good and filling. I am trying to follow Dr Ornish food plan. I also attend OA online. Anyway love getting to know more people here. Karo
Guest guest
Hi Jenn, I think setting little goals and rewards like your tattoo idea is a great motivator. Good luck and I'd love to see what you get when you make that goal weight! :-) Cindi --- On Mon, 5/4/09, Jenn <jpsunshinedaiseys5 wrote: Jenn <jpsunshinedaiseys5 Re: where is everyone Monday, May 4, 2009, 12:02 PM Jenn here in Oregon, mother of 5. Guest guest
Actually, I have been successfully slimming this year ‹ and I¹ve posted a couple of times about my progress but it generated little if any response. I thought maybe people on the list were more interested in recipes than hearing of others journeys. Since the start of 2009 I¹m down 15.6 kilos (34.32 pounds) and doing it while eating delicious vegan foods. Guest guest
Hi Cindi I'm just looking for ideas on how others manage their healthy living. What causes you to get off track? How do you get back on track? Audrey
Guest guest
I just started a new job about a month ago and my " group " of co-workers are very much foodies! Still losing though even with the temptation and a little indulging now & then. Guest guest
Hi Anna, This list has many functions; support for vegetarians looking to lose weight, recipes, meal ideas, and community. Most groups I'm in fluctuate with activity so I haven't been too concerned that it's quieted down here a little lately. Looks like that's changing though. :-) Congrats on your weight loss this year, way to go! Guest guest
I was a Java junkie, well living in San Francisco then Seattle will do that to a person. Now living in the Southwestern part of New Mexico my coffee consumption has dropped drastically, and I have switched to green tea. Now I only have 1 cup of coffee in the morning, maybe a McDs if we go to town, but most of the time now its tea. I have been sober over 20 years, quit smoking 2 years ago,cut down on coffee don't eat meat, walk daily, and clean house. Good god what has happened to me? Its time to finally get healthy so I can enjoy the 2nd half of life. Karo ---- Audrey Z Burrows 5/4/2009 12:53:33 PM Re: where is everyone Hi Karen I'm glad to see the message from you. Guest guest
My hubby has been gone for about the last 10 weeks and my caffeine consumption always goes way up when he is away, unfortunately he is scheduled to be away for the next 12 months and it is going to be hard to curb that. I also had a walking accident in Feb. and was on crutches for almost 5 weeks and gained about 15 lbs. on top of all the going away parties and the bar I was working at closed and we had a huge closing party so we have done a fair amount of drinking lately too. The good side of this is since he is gone now there won't be really any drinking and that will help. I can also start walking now physical therapy is over and all the snow is melted so that will help. Just 20 lbs for my next tattoo.
