MESSAGE FROM MARIA DAINES:

 

Dear Azam,

 

I just read the terrible news you sent to me regarding the elephant

killing. I have written this poem as the only way I can express my

sadness.

 

 

Death of an Elephant

 

Another flame of hope extinguished from our good earth

Another gentle soul, lost from an existence of peace

One heart beating for its own worth,

Not greater than, not last, not least.

Another glorious will to live, broken by this world

Another precious body slain, blood to bone, to dirt

Unto the quiet endless night, inhuman hands take guns to sight...

These callous wrongs we know so well,

And live each day to fight.
