Dr B Hazarika, veterinary office, Sivasagar speaking as a resource person enlightened the patticipants about the health hazards caused by the street dogs and that in India, one person dies every 30 minutes, of rabbies even though only 15 per cent of the street dogs carry the dreaded hydrophobia virus (Rebdo virus). He also said that some pharmacy owners in the market very often switch off the fridge containing life saving vaccines like that of rabbies which destroys the vaccines. Dr R Kalita, district Veterinary Officer said that ABC propgrame does not necessarily include all animals only streeth dogs which may, if not prevented, will outnumber human. Srimonta Borthakur in his speech said that birth control is more effective and a humane strategy to combat street dogs' hazard, while killing them irrationally subseribes to the cult of violence. Doya, he said is adopting the ABC programme to create a rabies-free environment with an acceptable and friendly street dog population Diganta Bhunya, secretary of the NGO, spoke on the objectives and thankedCumins India Ltd for attending valuable support to the programme.
